"NBC Cashing in Online with SNL’s Popular Palin Skits"

• Tina fey performs an amazing, dead on impression of Sarah Palin
• only a small percentage, 1/3 of the audience that viewed these skits have done so life on SNL
• the rest have watched the skits online, and some view them later through PVR or time shifting
• Integrated Media Measurement Inc, a research firm that has been measuring the views says that we wouldn’t have seen viral activity like this a year ago, they expect to see a large change to come in consumer behaviour, where they are looking to the internet for video
• on the opening night of the skit, NBC had a good-sized primetime audience, yet since then the skits have been recorded and viewed later and been viewed and passed-along all over the internet- it is so popular that NBC is having a difficult time tracking all of the numbers
• NBC recently created “widget” technology which allows video material to be exposed over the internet while still having a tie to the network’s website
• Tina Fey’s skits are posted on NBC’s website shortly after they air so fans can see them online before they even air on TV
• the objective behind this was to create buzz, the network felt that if viewers enjoyed the clip and passed it along, then they may also tune into the Saturday Night Live TV program, where the skits are performed live on a more regular basis
• there was some risk involved in this project, if less people watched the show on Saturday night, advertising revenues would be lost- yet, the opposite has happened, the shows audience for its first few episodes were actually significantly higher than last years

“Canoe Mobilizes News Content”

“Canoe Mobilizes News Content”
Marketing Magazine (online via: marketingmag.ca)
By Kristin Laird, September 26th, 2008
· Canoe.ca offering ‘on-the-go’ news to Canadian cell phone users
· available for those who have basic Internet access
· providing this service through their news and content portal, Canoe.ca Mobile
· the site will current news from sports, entertainment, technology, finance, travel and lifestyle sections
· content will be available in English and French
· Canoe.ca’s mission is to be “the Canadian destination for news content”
· feel they can achieve this by being accessible on multiple platforms and becoming mobile is the only venue they were missing
· the news information is extremely easy to access, users just text “CANOE” to 22022 on their cell phones or they can bookmark the “m.canoe.ca” page
· he information on the site is light, which makes it easier and faster to download and helps to keep data download charges to a minimum
This breakthrough technology will have an impact on both consumers and agencies. I think it will be beneficial to the average consumer who is time conscious. It will allow the consumer to stay up to date and on top of current news without putting in as much time to learn about it. People are so attached to their cell phones and “crack berries” that they never put them down. This is a perfect way for those to access the news since they will already be on their phones, its just another website to go to.. also, it allows them to get their news at any time, when its convenient to them. They can up-date themselves in real-time when they are on the run. I think this service offered by Canoe.ca is just another way for the company to keep up with the need for convenience which is embedded within Canadian culture.
I think this could have a negative impact agencies, simply because it is just taking away from other space within other mediums. Agencies that rely largely on newspaper, radio, or their print now have something else to compete with. Since this service provides the consumer with a new level of convenience they may give up their traditional medium for getting their news for this fast, easy and efficient way.

Hi Friends,
Welcome! As you can tell by the title of my first post, I am new to these interactive blogging’s and I couldn't’t wait to see what all the buzz was about. Now that I am part of the blogging world I just can’t get enough! These blogs are an excellent venue for personal expression.
I think it’s pretty cool how technology has given us the opportunity to be so creative- these blogs can really tell you something about a person and highlight their individuality. On my blog you will find a compilation of all of my very favourite things which will let you all know a little bit about me. Hopefully my visitors will appreciate this personal page and take an interest into what it is I have to say.
Now, Ill give you a little background info. I am a recent graduate of the University of Western Ontario, where I got my B.A. in International and Comparative Studies, a branch of Global Studies. I loved my time at Western. The school was excellent, the town is quaint, living on my own was fantastic, and the nightlife was quite a party, yet now that I have my degree I am ready to get down to business.
I am currently enrolled in a post-graduate program at Centennial College. It is there; in the Advertising Media Management Program that I am gaining the hands on knowledge I need to enter the advertising world. At this point in time my aspiration for the future is to become a media director but, if I’ve learnt anything so far its that nothing comes easy. Therefore, I plan to work extra hard this year and start from the bottom so I can work my way up, all the way to the very top!
I have many hobbies. I enjoy reading, skiing, hiking, rock climbing, hanging out with my friends, shopping, partying, and exercising. I am an animal lover, but dogs, which I have two of are my favourite; Millie and Rufus, both of which you’ll hear lots about with periodical visits to my blog.
Well that’s all for now, I hope you’ve enjoyed the first of many posts to come. Feel free to visit my blog on a weekly basis as I will be uploading it with some of my favourites; pictures, cool videos, news I find interesting and so much more!
Thanks Friends, hope to see you all here!
